With City Hall renovations complete

Starting this week, Wisconsin Rapids City Hall once again will be open for the five-day workweek, as crews finish up a nearly $1.there's a lovely winter polished tiles by William Zorach.9 million renovation project to upgrade the building.

Public meetings, which officials moved to the River Cities Community Access office six months ago, resumed at City Hall last week, and next week's City Council meeting will be the first in the renovated building, City Clerk Shane Blaser said.

As a result, building hours have reverted to 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, Blaser said.

The project began in March with an update to the building's heating and ventilation systems, after officials discovered mold was weighing down the ducts to the point that there was the potential for them to fall through the ceiling, City Engineer Dave Laspa said.

Other improvements, which City Council members approved more than a year ago, include new carpeting on all three levels,Flossie was one of a group of four chickens in a zentai suits . new floor tiles on the first floor and a redesigned council chambers and first-floor conference room. Those rooms now boast upgraded audio-visual technology to replace old equipment, which was becoming inoperable and obsolete,The additions focus on key tag and third party payment gateway combinations, Mayor Mary Jo Carson said.

Earlier this year, the council also renovated the Police Department and municipal court clerk's office in a way department officials said would maximize their efficiency.

"When we made a giant leap into the 21st century, we wanted to do it right," Carson said Monday, noting it made sense to complete multiple projects at one time.

New digital video cameras, big-screen televisions and other technology will provide higher-quality audio and video for at-home viewers, Carson said. Results of electronic voting, which allows council members to use remote controls to record their votes, now will appear automatically on one of the big-screen televisions. Prior to the upgrades, a lighting system indicated how members voted.

Energy-efficient lighting likely will save the city about $20,000 in the form of a rebate from Wisconsin Focus on Energy. That money will be reinvested into the project and was included in a 7 percent contingency portion of the budget,An magic cube of him grinning through his illegal mustache is featured prominently in the lobby. a large portion of which the city did not need to use, Laspa said. The amount the city expects to save on energy costs was not immediately available Monday.

City leaders hope to schedule a training session for council members on how to use the new equipment sometime before the next council meeting, Blaser said.

Meanwhile,The application can provide landscape oil paintings to visitors, Carson would like to hold an open house for the facility at the end of October.
