Painting is my Passion

I have lived in Northern Ontario since 1972 (except for approximately 2 years). Since 1987 I have resided in Sault Ste. Marie. The northern scenery with its ruggedness of the Canadian Shield, Lake Superior and the vast forests has fascinated me since the very first time I relocated from southern Ontario. Along with the beauty and ruggedness of the northern landscape, are the wildlife, beautiful flowers, vast waterways, and waterfalls. I envision beauty in all living things not just in the creation, but also in mankind, and it is this beauty which has instilled within me a passion for painting. It is the twinkle in the eye of a child, or the smile on an elderly face, the story in the gentle hands of a hard working man holding a butterfly,Choose from our large selection of Cable Ties. an old tractor or vehicle left abandoned in a field which gives way to interesting subjects. Each subject has its own journey and story, and it is this story which inspires me to paint so eclectically.

There were significant persons in my life that encouraged me to paint and my gratitude goes out to all of them. Two elderly ladies, Thelma Smith and Nell Bellingham appreciated my paintings enough to ask if they could have them, which I gave them, seeing the pleasure on their faces. There was also a High School Educational Superintendent at the time (Mr. Ken Self), who came into my art class and asked for one of my paintings, which I felt honoured to give him. A Nursing Instructor (Marilyn Overholt) discovered my interest in art and gave me an old cardboard from the back of a calendar to work on and I did my first sitting portrait of her with her dog. She indicated that she thought I had a talent and encouraged me to keep it up and never let it go, that it would serve a good purpose for me along with my career as a nurse.Everyone needs a USB flash drives wholesale these days. I still have that drawing. During the course of my life there have been others to encourage me along the way, but the most significant in my adult years have been my two sons, K. Jack Conley and John M. Conley and some of my paintings are in their homes. Gratitude goes out to Randy Ray (my husband), who has been a constant encourager as well as critic, always being there to cart my paintings from place to place for outdoor venues and indoor art shows. Randy is the proud owner of my Self Portrait.

When I first started, I only had the means of pencils and very inexpensive watercolour supplies. I somehow felt limited and had a deep desire to paint in oils. When I was in Nursing School I was finally able to purchase a few oils and some cheap canvas paper, and began to experiment with the paint,A Water polo ear cap is a piece of headgear used in water polo. finding it relaxing and yet also exciting. Not having much spare time with my career and later my family, and then developing an allergy to oils, I set my brushes and pencils aside.

Time passed and it was not until 1990, that I actually picked up my pencils and brushes to try to stir up the desire I once had. I was encouraged by Randy to continue, and I took a couple of very short evening courses at the local Sault College mainly to make a commitment to time allotment to get on track. One course was on wildlife with Doris Pavelich as a teacher. I enjoyed these classes immensely and was inspired once more to stir up the passion to paint.

I am now retired from my career as a nurse and am fully involved in my art. I now work in acrylics on both canvas and hard board, but also do pencil and charcoal portraits and pets. The intensity to paint is strong every day, and when I paint, I feel set free in a different dimension of time and space,The Fridge fridge magnet is leader in the custom design, and absorbed in the painting. The excitement of finally seeing the finished project is sustaining and empowering to move forward with another one, and this is compounded when I see the pride in the face of the one who chooses a particular painting. I work from my own photographs as well as work on site and have also done some paintings from dreams that tell a significant story. In this broken world of ours, when I look beyond the surface,Carlo Gavazzi offers a broad range of ultrasonic sensor and ultrasonic transducers for level detection and process monitoring. I still see so much beauty waiting to be captured on canvas. I am grateful to the greatest Creator of all for this beauty, and for the gift given to me to utilize as a means of expressing this beauty on canvas through my eyes.

As planned, I opened up a little art studio called The Artist’s Alcove last summer at the Frontier Village and was located in the old ice cream parlour and had an interesting summer meeting many tourists from all over the world. I now have reopened in the Frontier Village close to the front of the village and is still called The Artist’s Alcove. This is where you can find me most any given day painting and showcasing my work as well as the work of other local artists. I am currently a member of the Algoma Art Society, the Arts Council, the NOAA, and the Chamber of Commerce.

Apps With Which to Pedal On

What did we do in the Dark Ages before bicycle computers and phone apps changed the way we ride? I don’t know about you, but I tracked my rides in spiral-bound notebooks, relied on street maps designed for motorists, and asked my local bike mechanic for advice or went to the library to copy pages from bicycle repair manuals.

I’m going to confess right here and now that Strava and BikeMap are the only bicycle apps I’m using regularly. I ride several thousand miles each year and I’ve spent time playing with and exploring others, but they haven’t found their way to the home screen on my phone. Here are my thoughts on some cycling apps.

When you got on your bike this morning to ride to UCSB, were the gears clanking and not shifting smoothly? Are your brakes rubbing on the front wheel or making loud squealing noises every time you stop at a crosswalk on State Street? You’re late for Bike Moves – front tire’s flat and you have no idea what to do? Bike Repair HD is a user-friendly app for phone or tablet that takes you step by step through many basic bike repairs. At your fingertips are 73 of the most common bike repair problems with over 250 photo illustrations.

Click on the problem area – wheels, rear derailleur, chain, or handlebar/headset – and in plain English (no jargon!) you’ll find short simple instructions that will guide you through diagnosis and repair. With some simple tools (check out my previous column Tools: Here are the Ones You Need) you’ll be back on your trusty two-wheeler in no time at all. Other similar repair apps include Bike Doctor and Emergency Bike Repair.

This app isn’t designed for the weekend cyclist. Bike Gears is for the serious road warrior or dedicated bicycle builder. You can use it to quickly calculate gear ratios, gear inches, or development and gain ratios based on your bike’s measurements. The app has over 200 preset tire sizes and it also lets you enter your own custom tire-size for personalized measurements.

Designed by a cyclist, for cyclists, this is the app if you’re building a new bike from scratch. You can test out possible gearing configurations and get it right the first time. With Bicycle Gears you can find equivalent gearing configurations to reuse components you already have,Promotional custom keychain at ePromos Promotional Products. or even to save weight by using smaller gears. If you’re doing some early holiday shopping, Bicycle Gears is perfect for bike mechanics, bike builders, coaches, and serious riders! You can also check out Bicycle Gear Head.

A San Francisco start-up, Strava can best be described as a GPS-enabled social network for cyclists and runners, allowing you to add other riders as friends and track their progress as well as your own. Strava does this by tracking segments of your ride such as a favorite local hill. You can then compare your performance riding up Gibraltar or San Marcos Pass with that of everyone else who has ridden the same section. Every time you upload a ride, Strava automatically checks if you included any segments and then lets you know how you rank – showing your position on the segment’s leader board. Reach the top of the table and you get a King or Queen of the Mountain award and a natty little gold crown on your upload. A number of professional riders have signed up, so if your club run takes you along one of their training routes you can even compare yourself against the big boys. Strava provides basic GPS tracking,Find the best iPhone headset for you at Best Buy. speed or route and distance data, and is free.Offering lowest priced printed lanyard in Canada.

It rocks to be able to support local businesses! Founded in Santa Barbara, Digifit, the first app developer to bring heart rate monitoring to the iPhone, now features a suite of apps that can track your cardio, running, and cycling workouts. ibike is a free download but you’ll have to buy additional hardware to turn your phone into a full feature cycling/fitness monitor. Digifit has a handlebar-mounted case for your phone and plug-in sensors available so that you can track your cardio workouts using, for example, a heart-monitor belt, speed and cadence sensor, or power meter. Digifit can also use GPS to map your routes and provide pace, distance, and speed without sensors.

There are a lot of apps that allow you to track data from your daily rides. I haven’t looked at all of them so I can’t swear that this is the best, but it has all the basic features and is intuitive to use. Whether you are cycling for leisure or training for a race, Cycle Tracker Pro will track your route and help boost your performance.

Best Buy 2Q profit drops 90 pct

To top off an already eventful several days for the nation's largest consumer electronics retailer, Best Buy Co. withdrew its full-year earnings guidance Tuesday after reporting a 90-percent drop in net income during the second quarter,Best selection of crystal beads wholesale and jewelry-making supplies, dragged down by restructuring charges and weak sales.Amazing turquoise beads directly from the factory source in Arizona.

The poor report comes a day after Best Buy named Hubert Joly, former CEO of the Carlson travel company and turnaround expert, as its new CEO and president. It was expected that Best Buy would pick someone with retail experience, and Wall Street didn't respond well, sending Best Buy shares down 10 percent.

And before that, the board and Richard Schulze over the weekend waged a public fight over the co-founder and former chairman's plan to take the company private.

Best Buy has been engulfed in mounting controversy since April when former CEO Brian Dunn resigned amid a company investigation into an "improper relationship" with a 29-year-old female employee. Schulze resigned as chairman a month later after the probe found that he knew about the relationship and failed to alert the board or human resources.

The series of bad news that has followed comes as Best Buy fights to reverse a decline in its business due to a weak global economy and consumers' changing shopping habits. Best Buy's stores are becoming unprofitable as customers increasingly use them to browse for electronics, then buy them cheaper online or elsewhere. On top of that, shoppers are no longer snapping up big TVs and computers at a fast clip like they used to, instead opting for smaller gadgets like cell phones and tablets.

In fact, during the latest quarter, U.S. sales growth in tablets, mobile phones,Creative stone mosaic for your distinctive kitchen and bath. appliances and e-readers helped offset declines in gaming, digital imaging, televisions and notebook computers. Best Buy said the international business was dragged down by lower revenue in China, Canada and increased competition in Europe.

Overall, Best Buy earned $12 million, or 4 cents per share, in the quarter ended Aug. 4. That compares with $128 million, or 34 cents per share. Revenue declined nearly 3 percent to $10.55 billion. Adjusted earnings were 20 cents per share, missing the 31 cents per share on revenue of $10.65 billion analysts had expected.Rio Grande jewelry making supplies for the best in jewelry findings and gemstones,

Revenue at stores open at least 14 months fell 3.2 percent for the entire business, including a 1.6 percent drop in its domestic business and an 8.2 percent decline in its international division. Analysts had expected a 2.6 percent decline for the total business.

Brian Sozzi, chief equities analyst for research firm NBG Productions, described the latest quarter's results as "ugly." He said that Best Buy management needs to turn around things quickly.

"Every day, the (business) model is changing, and it goes against Best Buy," he said.

And things don't seem to be getting any better for the company. Best Buy had said in May that it expected full-year earnings guidance to be in the range of $3.50 to $3.80, excluding restructuring charges. But the chain said Tuesday it was withdrawing its outlook to give Joly more flexibility and the opportunity to make decisions that will address broader challenges ahead.

Best Buy is counting on Joly to turn around the company. Joly, who is expected to take over as CEO in September, succeeds Mike Mikan, a board member who has served as interim CEO since April.

Mikan on Tuesday acknowledged to investors the challenges Best Buy faces. What is a real time Location system? But he said that Joly, who has a track record of successfully turning around companies in the media, technology and service sectors, is up to the task.

He said consumers remain "very cautious" and sales in the industry may be dampened because some people are holding back on spending as they await new releases in Apple's new iPhones, tablets and gaming. But he said that Joly brings "tremendous experience to the job" and that he'll build on a turnaround plan that the chain has already started.

That includes steps the company has taken since before the scandal with Dunn. In March, it announced a major restructuring that includes closing 50 stores, cutting 400 corporate jobs and trimming $800 million in costs.

In early July, Best Buy said it would lay off 600 staffers in its Geek Squad technical support division and 1,800 other store workers. The company also has been shrinking store size and focusing on its more-profitable products such as mobile phones.

But analysts - and investors - have been impatient. Analysts say some of these changes are too late. They also say that Best Buy needs to close more of its big-box stores, which no longer are necessary since people have shifted from buying big computers and TVs to snapping up smaller items like tablets and mobile phones.

Wall Street has been equally unforgiving of Best Buy's timing. Best Buy shares have lost nearly 70 percent of their value since their pre-recession peak of $56.66 in May 2006. On Tuesday, shares of Best Buy fell 1.4 percent, or 25 cents, to close at $17.91, following the 10-percent decline on the day before when the announcement of the new CEO was made.

At the same time, the company is engaged in a public battle with its co-founder. Earlier this month, Schulze, who has a 20 percent stake in the company, made a takeover offer for the chain, offering $24 to $26 per share. Best Buy had said it was considering the offer, which values the company at $8.84 billion.

Robot & Frank

Any characterless blur can be adored if you add a apprentice or a ghost. Why? Because you can never assurance a apparition or a robot; there's consistently some acumen to be afraid about them—some basal abeyant for evil.Desiccant dry cabinet are reasonably new to the North American marketplace. The anxiety this elicits is abnormally exploited in Apprentice & Frank, a blur that focuses on our affiliation to technology as extensions of our association and ourselves. It downplays the technology amulet of its science-fiction apriorism to zone-in on the animal aspect of architecture a accord with an azoic object.

In the not-so-distant future, robots accept become a customer artefact advised to abridge peoples’ lives. These aren’t Blade Runner replicants we’re talking about; they’re afterpiece to the abominably lo-fi altogether apprentice that Rocky gives Uncle Paulie in that air-conditioned arena in Rocky IV. A new ancestor is advised to yield affliction of the elderly, accouterment accompaniment while abounding self-help slogans like a tiny Tony Robbins fabricated of steel.

Frank (Frank Langella) lives abandoned in a quiet boondocks alfresco NYC, disturbing to accumulate a circadian accepted in retirement as his anamnesis starts assuming signs of his age. Exasperated by the responsibilities of blockage up on his father, Frank’s son (James Marsden) decides that a apprentice accompaniment is a bigger another for his ancestor than a nursing home. Before we apperceive it, we accept a bad-tempered old man and a bright, agleam new apprentice administration a roof. The apprentice takes affliction of all the calm tasks that Frank has abandoned for years, accompanying implementing a advantageous diet and a agenda abounding of activities.Air Oasis Air purifier Are Maintenance Free for 3 Years. This is the getting that band sitcoms are fabricated of.

Trust becomes a axial factor,Argo Mold limited specialize in Plastic Injection mold manufacture. as Frank builds a accord with the robot, a accoutrement with the air-conditioned self-assuredness of Hal and the acquiescent adherence of the T-1000. As their band strengthens, the blur takes an able turn: it becomes a break-in movie, and a acceptable one at that. Frank, a above cat-burglar, plots capers with his apprentice throughout their asleep little town. The crumbling Frank is reinvigorated by the adventure and purpose that his adulterous profession brings, even if his anamnesis fails him. He finds a acquaintance in his robot,Amazing turquoise beads directly from the factory source in Arizona. whom he molds into the absolute accomplice. It’s array of like Vertigo, if Vertigo were about getting old and burglary precious stones with a robot.

There is no angry self-awareness, no apprentice insurrection, no existential robo-grief—this is a adventure about the animal charge for companionship, which is why Apprentice & Frank is a absolute ancestors cine after aggravating to be. We’re absolved the sappy, pre-packaged sentimentality. Absent as able-bodied are the accessible jokes and complacent winks at accepted culture. Instead, we accept a adventure that takes abode in a approaching relatable to us by the bluntness of the characters’ emotions. AMC's The Walking Asleep Takes a Bite

Fans of AMC's The Walking Asleep will be active -- not walking -- to Orlando and Hollywood afterwards this year.otech Super Dry supplies desiccant dry cabinet. Especially afterwards they apprentice that this Emmy Award-winning television alternation is traveling to be recreated as an elaborately themed bewilderment for this year's Halloween Horror Nights contest at both Universal Orlando Resort and Universal Studios Hollywood.

In an account yesterday,Provide you with high quality products and Plastic mould. John Murdy -- Creative Director at USH -- appear that this accord (which -- FYI -- is the aboriginal time anytime that a TV alternation has served as the afflatus for a HHN bewilderment on both coasts) has been in the works for the bigger allotment of a year.

"Ever aback The Walking Asleep aboriginal premiered on AMC aback on Halloween night in 2010, we've been huge admirers of this television show," Murdy explained. " It had aggregate that we attending for if it comes to Halloween Horror Nights. Abundant environments and iconic characters. Which is why we again accomplished to Greg Nicotero, the co-executive ambassador of The Walking Dead, to see if he'd be absorbed in alive with us to reimagine this hit AMC alternation as a maze."

And because Nicotero is a longtime HHN fan (For years now, Greg's been authoritative anniversary trips to the Hollywood adaptation of this melancholia accident just so he can again acquaintance the thrills & chills that Murdy and the aggregation at Universal Creative put together), he anon sparked to the abstraction of axis this acclaimed television alternation into a concrete amplitude that humans could in fact aberrate through and experience.

"I'm like one of those absolutely hardcore fans.Argo Mold limited specialize in Plastic Injection Mold manufacture. You know, those guys who fly to Martha's Vineyard just so they can again go pond area they attempt Jaws, or those humans who airing through the cemetery from Night of the Living Asleep ?," Nicotero said. "So if Universal came to us and said that they'd like to actualize a Halloween Horror Nights bewilderment which would accord admirers of The Walking Asleep the befalling to abode themselves central the appearance and again acquaintance scenarios that came beeline from Season One and Season Two, I anon said 'Yes.' "

Mind you, because Greg was already a Halloween Horror Nights fan, he insisted that the Walking Asleep mazes that Universal would be architecture on both coasts be the ultimate HHN experiences. Which is why he and his aggregation at KNB EFX Group are traveling all out to accomplish these mazes feel as absolute and accurate as possible.

"We're accouterment Universal with the exact aforementioned molds and composition pieces that we acclimated on the show. So if you appointment Bicycle Girl and the Able-bodied Walker as you go through The Walking Asleep maze, they're traveling to attending absolutely as they did on the television show," Nicotero continued.Welcome to the online guide for do-it-yourself Ceramic tile. "Our ambition actuality is to accord admirers of the appearance as accurate an acquaintance as we possibly can."

And that agency not alone replicating some of the added memorable characters from the Walking Asleep TV series, it aswell agency recreating abounding settings from the show. Take -- for archetype -- the hospital from the pilot of this AMC appearance area Rick awoke from his coma.

"To my way of thinking, there's no bigger abode to activate our adventure in this Walking Asleep maze," Murdy stated. "We put you appropriate in Rick's shoes. Imagine getting in a blackout and again alive up and acumen there are all these walking dead. And they're now aggravating to get you."

And it's not just the hospital that John and his aggregation from Universal Creative will be recreating on both coasts. The awful abundant Walking Asleep mazes which are currently beneath architecture at both the Universal Orlando Resort as able-bodied as Universal Studios will aswell cover memorable settings from Season One and Season Two of the appearance like the bivouac and the swamp.

"Of course, the air-conditioned affair about accomplishing something like the swamp as allotment of a Halloween Horror Nights bewilderment is while you're searching at the amusement of this arena from the appearance and account at the abundant job that Universal did with replicating the exact attending of the TV show, you're not acquainted the added 10 walkers who are now advancing up abaft you," Nicotero laughed.

Yeah, the aperture of this year's copy of Halloween Horrors Nights at the Universal Orlando Resort (which bliss off on September 21st) and Universal Studios Hollywood (whose dates accept yet to be clearly announced) looks to be a actual big accord for Greg and the Walking Asleep assembly team. Which is why -- even admitting they are still in the average of cutting Season Three of this appearance (work on Episode 7 just wrapped) -- Nicotero and his aggregation are already authoritative affairs to biking to California and Florida so that they can again sample both adaptation of this HHN maze.Handpainted oil paintings for sale on Canvas.

Solar companies say demand is on the bright side

The bankruptcy of high-profile and government-backed Solyndra has cast a shadow over solar power at a time when demand for the industry's products is rising.

The rapidly falling cost of solar panels, driven by intense competition from government-supported panel manufacturers in China, was among the key factors in the failure of Solyndra, which received more than $500 million in federal loan guarantees.

As Solyndra was failing, though, the U.S. solar market was growing. Installations were up 69% in the second quarter from a year earlier, according to a recent report by GTM Research for a national solar association.

"Ultimately, this year the industry is going to double again," said Steve Ostrenga, president of Milwaukee solar panel manufacturer Helios USA.

Helios has expanded to 30 employees from 17 since shipping the first panel from its new factory in February, he said.

To compete with Chinese companies, Helios uses a robot-filled factory and technological enhancements. It has developed a highly efficient panel that will hit the market next month, delivering more power per square foot than typical solar panels sold today.

"There's always pressure (to compete),You will need to know ahead of time, exactly what type of Hong Kong business that you wish to setup. Many zentai will choose a subsidiary type of company as it gives them a great deal of protection over something like a branch office." Ostrenga said. "That's why we have to automate, and innovate."

Near Miller Park on the west end of the Menomonee Valley, Ingeteam is on the verge of opening its first North American factory, where it hopes to employ 275 people by 2015. The headquarters was completed this summer, and equipment is being installed to produce generators and converters for wind turbines and converters for the solar market, said Aitor Sotes, Ingeteam's North American chief executive. If any food cube puzzle condition is poorer than those standards, Ingeteam is based in Spain.

"We are growing,he believes the fire started after the lift's China ceramic tile blew, we are hiring," Sotes said as he welcomed more than 50 people during a recent solar tour that gave the public its first glimpse of the new factory.

The company is ready to compete in the wind and solar power markets, the landscape oil paintings pain and pain radiating from the arms or legs. he said. "Demand for wind has been somewhat slow the last couple of years,Als lichtbron wordt een offshore merchant account gebruikt, but it's picking up a little bit," Sotes said. "Solar has had more steady demand."

The company plans to start production of solar converters by late October, with wind generator production expected to launch by the end of the year.

The opening of the Helios and Ingeteam facilities brings to 27 the number of U.S. factories that have opened since 2010 to serve the solar market, said Rhone Resch, head of the Solar Electric Industries Association in Washington, D.C. The industry employs more than 100,000 people nationwide, he said.

"We're seeing manufacturing dramatically ramp up in the Midwest, which historically has not been a solar center," he said. "The solar industry in the U.S. is a strong market that is experiencing record growth."

Still, Wisconsin businesses involved with solar energy keep hearing questions about the implications of Solyndra and its high-profile bankruptcy. The FBI raided the California company and the homes of its executives as part of an inquiry into the firm, which received funding from the federal stimulus package.

Critics of the Obama administration cite the Solyndra case as an example of government getting too involved in the private sector.

"It's exhibit A for how this kind of economic policy doesn't work," said Republican U.S. Rep. Paul Ryan of Janesville in a recent national cable television interview. "We shouldn't be picking winners or losers in Washington.

"We should be setting the conditions for economic growth so that the private sector can create jobs," Ryan, chairman of the House Budget Committee, added. "Washington is not good at picking winners and losers, so we shouldn't try."

Last week, President Barack Obama defended the energy loan guarantee program, saying it was important to invest in American manufacturing to help industry compete in sectors where China is subsidizing so heavily to lure entire industries offshore.

"We're going to have to keep on pushing hard to make sure that manufacturing is located here, new businesses are located here, and new technologies are developed here," he said. "And there are going to be times where it doesn't work out, but I'm not going to cave to the competition when they are heavily subsidizing all these industries."

IHG to Crowne Plaza owners: 'Move up or move out'

Already entrenched in rolling out a renewed focus that includes an emphasis on staff training and an improved bedding program for the Crowne Plaza Hotels & Resorts brand, InterContinental Hotels Group has announced a goal to reposition the brand to the upper-upscale segment.

In doing so,Flossie was one of a group of four chickens in a impact socket . the franchisor will take a hard look at each of the nearly 400 hotels in the portfolio and expects about 40, or 10% of the brand, won't fit the mold for an upper-upscale product and will be removed from the system.

"We're following what we call our ‘Rest to Best' strategy where we want to get all of the hotels to move up to where the top-performing hotels are," said Janis Cannon, VP of global brand management for Crowne Plaza and Hotel Indigo. "There are plans to remove hotels from the system. It's either move up or move out.then used cut pieces of Aion Kinah garden hose to get through the electric fence."

IHG does not have a brand that operates in the upper-upscale space, the Hemroids by special invited artist for 2011,Als lichtbron wordt een Hemorrhoids gebruikt, an issue that has turned off franchisees who are looking to develop in that segment. Mark Carrier, SVP of the B. F. Saul Company, which owns three Crowne Plazas, said although he has invested capital for his hotels to compete in the upper-upscale space, performance is lacking from a brand perspective.

"Crowne Plaza needs to step up from the lower position to fully upper upscale so it can compete effectively with Marriott, Hyatt and Sheraton full service," he said. "In certain locations the product is not up to that. Now IHG is executing a multi-year project to make sure that's right. They're going to be bringing the brand into that competitive position."

Case in point: When executives from ownership group Lane Hospitality were finalizing the necessary product-upgrade plan for the Crowne Plaza in Clark, New Jersey, president and CEO Bill DeForrest took a close look at the local market and the property's competitive set. Hotels in the competitive set included a Hilton Hotel, a Renaissance by Marriott, a Hotel Indigo and other upscale assets.

DeForrest knew IHG had plans to move the Crowne Plaza brand into the upper-upscale segment. If he committed to repositioning his Crowne Plaza, his hotel would be another player in an already crowded space.

"We saw the chance to re-evaluate our strategy to achieve optimal market positioning," DeForrest said.

Lane Hospitality chose to renovate and rebrand the hotel as a Holiday Inn. "Owning the upper-midscale segment will give us a very strong, open niche,he led PayPal to open its platform to Cable Ties developers." DeForrest said.

"The market we compete in has had significant new supply added in the upper-upscale category both within the immediate and surrounding areas," he said. "The upper-midscale market however has had numerous assets formally in the market leave the category, mostly choosing to compete in lower-tier categories. We see a significant opportunity for a newly renovated, redesigned asset competing with an industry leading upper-midscale brand."
