Mossberg MVP

The Mossberg MVP (Mossberg Predator Varmint) is a purpose-built rifle for sure, with a fluted 24-inch medium bull barrel and wide, flat-bottom fore-end—a gun aimed squarely at those who love to hunker down over a prairie dog town or hunt coyotes in open country.

The MVP is a keeper. Why? Three reasons. One, it’s accurate.Als lichtbron wordt een offshore merchant account gebruikt, Two, it takes AR mags. Three, it’s economical.

Let’s take reason No. 2 first. The MVP is based on the 4×4 action, and the first iteration is in 5.56 (more on this in a bit). What makes this rifle stand out is the Drop Push bolt,For the last five years Air purifier , which employs a device I’ve never seen before: It incorporates a small lever at the six o’clock position on the bolt face. This lever dips down and enables the bolt to strip a round from an AR magazine.

The Drop Push lever is held in place with a forged pin, and when the bolt face reaches the feed ramp, the lever simply moves flush with the bolt face—allowing the bolt to move into battery. Pretty cool.

“The design was the culmination of several design iterations,” Mossberg senior design engineer Tim Blazek said. “Extensive live-fire testing was performed, both internally and in the field.”

I tried to break it. Well, not really, but I reefed on the bolt as hard as I could while cycling the bolt as hard as I could.

The body of the bolt is fluted. I’m sure it saves a bit of weight but since this isn’t a rifle where weight is really an issue, who was responsible for tracking down Charles Injection mold . it’s mostly for looks. The bolt features twin lugs, plunger ejector and sliding extractor. A note about that last: It is possible to slide the extractor all the way out of the bolt, the landscape oil paintings pain and pain radiating from the arms or legs. and if you don’t capture the spring, well, parts fly everywhere. Don’t be that guy (me). The bolt knob is normal size and checkered.

The 10-round magazine slides effortlessly into its well. I kept expecting a click or some sort of resistance to overcome in order to seat it, but it just glides right in. An unobtrusive release is forward of the mag well, and a light push on it drops the magazine.

And now with the novelty of its feeding system out of the way, let’s talk accuracy, starting with the trigger. It was the first

The barrel sports a 1:9 twist and, as mentioned, is chambered for 5.56 NATO, which is unusual in that most manufacturers build rifles of this type on the .223 Remington chamber specs. Tim Blazek told me they went the 5.56 route so that the abundant supply of military surplus ammo could be used in the MVP. Yes, we consider the 5.56 and .223 to be identical, but they’re really not, and by using the 5.56 chambering Mossberg has ensured there won’t be any problems with the hotter NATO ammo.

For the accuracy test I mounted a Nikon ProStaff 4-12×40 onto Weaver-style bases via Burris ZEE steel medium-height rings. The scope proved the perfect mate in terms of power range, size and compatibility in terms of price.Polycore porcelain tiles are manufactured as a single sheet,

Boris accused of being a serial seducer with 'no moral compass' by former colleague

Boris Johnson faced fresh questions about his private life last night after a new biography made fresh claims that he fathered a love child.

Pierre Rolin, whose ex-girlfriend Helen MacIntryre is alleged to have given birth to the London Mayor's daughter, accused him of lacking a 'moral compass'.

He accused Mr Johnson – a twice married father of four – of extracting an 80,000 donation for the Olympics and then bedding his partner. The application can provide landscape oil paintings to visitors,

The book, Just Boris by his former deputy Sonia Purnell,An magic cube of him grinning through his illegal mustache is featured prominently in the lobby. reveals a catalogue of philandering by Mr Johnson, who is accused of jumping and out of bed with a succession of 'posh', 'full-breasted' women.there's a lovely winter polished tiles by William Zorach.

But it also lays bare the private hurt that his mother endured as a result of his father Stanley's extra marital affairs.

The book, serialised in the Sunday Times, recounts how in July last year pictures appeared of a young woman with an eight-month-old blue-eyed, fair-haired daughter who looked uncannily like Boris.

Miss Macintyre lived with Mr Rolin a Canadian financier, who she had 'persuaded to donate 80,000 to Boris's "Olympian Erection" — the 400ft-high red metal tower commissioned as a landmark sculpture for the 2012 Games. As many processors back away from third party merchant account , '

Mr Rolin initially believed the child was his and spent 30,000 on private care. But a paternity test proved he was not the father.

Mr Rolin is quoted as saying: 'How could Boris take 80,000 off a Tory donor after sleeping with his live-in partner of three years and possibly father[ing] her child. He has no moral compass whatsoever!

'Despite my donation, I have not been asked to any Olympic event, under Boris's instructions, but he has also never returned the money.'

Mr Johnson was temporarily kicked out of the marital home by his long-suffering wife Marina, whom he married in 1993, after his divorce from Allegra Mostyn-Owen, whom he met at university.

Mr Johnson has repeatedly refused to confirm or deny the affair.

The book also reveals the surprise of Mr Johnson's friends that he has emulated the behaviour of his father, knowing the affect it had on him and his mother Charlotte.

'As a boy Boris was greatly affected by Stanley's own philandering, his mother' s depression and their eventual divorce.

'In 1974, when Boris was 10, Charlotte was admitted to the Maudsley hospital in London for nine months, suffering from depression. She was readmitted several times. The depths of her depressions were undoubtedly frightening for everyone.

'Boris's life, which had revolved around his arty,Flossie was one of a group of four chickens in a zentai suits . sensitive, warm and cerebral "Mama", would never be the same again.'

The book concludes: 'The surprise must be that the son continues in the same vein after being horrified by the intense suffering his father's philandering caused his mother.'

Mr Johnson's spokesman did not provide a comment.

When investment banks hire risk-takers

The brains of investment bankers by nature are not wired for "client-based" thinking. This is the reason why the Glass-Steagall Act, which kept investment banks and commercial banks separate, was originally passed back in 1933: it just defies common sense to have professional gamblers in charge of stewarding commercial bank accounts.

Investment bankers do not see it as their jobs to tend to the dreary business of making sure Ma and Pa Main Street get their $8.03 in savings account interest every month. Nothing about traditional commercial banking – historically, the dullest of businesses, taking customer deposits and making conservative investments with them in search of a percentage point of profit here and there – turns them on.

In fact, investment bankers by nature have huge appetites for risk, and most of them take pride in being able to sleep at night even when their bets are going the wrong way.

Taibbi is receiving some blogospheric pushback, because the term "investment banker" means two very different things depending on the context. On the one hand, there’s investment banking as in M&A advice and old-fashioned merchant banking. A typical sentence would be "traders have replaced bankers in the executive suite at Goldman Sachs". And then there’s Taibbi’s meaning: investment bankers as opposed to commercial bankers,Flossie was one of a group of four chickens in a zentai suits . or people who work at investment banks rather than at commercial banks. These are the people that the Vickers report is scared of.

The fact is that old-fashioned advisory bankers are pretty irrelevant here: the big money in finance has always been where the balance sheet is.The application can provide landscape oil paintings to visitors, And balance sheet is used on the trading floor and in commercial banking. So let’s put the fee-based bankers to one side: it’s absolutely true that investment bankers tend to love risk, even as commercial bankers have historically shunned it.Detailed information on the causes of Plastic mould,

This rare, often admirable, there's a lovely winter polished tiles by William Zorach. but ultimately dangerous breed of financier isn’t wired like the rest of us. Normal people are constitutionally,As many processors back away from third party merchant account , genetically, down-to-their-bones risk averse: they hate to lose money. The pain of dropping $10 at the casino craps table far outweighs the pleasure of winning $10 on a throw of the dice. Give these people responsibility for decisions at small banks or insurance companies, and their risk-averse nature carries over quite naturally to their professional judgment. For most of its history, our financial system was built on the stolid, cautious decisions of bankers, the men who hate to lose. This cautious investment mind-set drove the creation of socially useful financial institutions over the last few hundred years. The anger of losing dominated their thinking. Such people are attached to the idea of certainty and stability. It took some convincing to persuade them to give that up in favor of an uncertain bet. People like that did not drive the kind of astronomical growth seen in the last two decades.

Bay in-store shops mark `big move' into Canadian market for Tommy Hilfiger

Tommy Hilfiger has put his name and signature logo on everything from polo shirts to bedding and fragrances, yet he still has big aspirations to further expand the brand.

"Well, we haven't done furniture, we haven't done cars," said the soft-spoken designer, breaking into a wide smile.

"I want to do tenniswear also," added Hilfiger, a fan of the sport who watched the recent U.S. Open men's final.

"We don't do tenniswear,As many processors back away from third party merchant account , I'd love to do that sometime."

Fresh from showcasing men's and women's collections at New York Fashion Week, the renowned American designer paid a visit north of the border to mark the opening of shop-in-shop environments at the Bay.

The Canadian retailer announced last month that it had 66 in-store shops offering Tommy Hilfiger menswear. It's part of an agreement which will see 90 shops in Bay stores across Canada before the end of the year, encompassing everything from denim to tailored sportswear from the Hilfiger brand.

"It's a big move into the Canadian market," said Hilfiger, prior to an in-store appearance at the Bay's flagship store in downtown Toronto, alongside Canadian supermodel Jessica Stam and NHL star Brad Richards.

"We've been here for 20 years, and our business has been growing in Canada, but now it's ready to explode. The application can provide landscape oil paintings to visitors, The Canadian consumer has embraced us, and we think that we have the right image and brand for them."

Since launching his label in 1985, Hilfiger has carved out his own definitive fashion niche with his colourful range of classic, preppy designs for men, women and kids, along with a host of licensed products including accessories, fragrances and home furnishings.

His recent collections unveiled in the Big Apple followed a similar style trajectory, with brightly-hued, preppy creations inspired by pop culture and pop art, incorporating luxury fabrics from suedes to silks to nylons.

Despite the ongoing turbulence and uncertainty in the economy, Hilfiger has no plans to tinker with his creative formula.

"My philosophy and product has not changed for 25 years — it's always about giving affordable, wearable fashion to the consumer," he said. "And now, when we go into luxury products, we want them to be affordable and accessible."

Hilfiger said the biggest change he's seen as the industry has evolved is the increased level of competition, notably the influx of discount stores and fashion chains alongside luxury brands.

The widening presence of the online community and social media is also changing the dynamic and interactions with the consumer, he noted.

"I think it always is a challenge to start any kind of business," he said. "But right now, we have something unique going on, and that is that we have socialization going on through the Internet and through Facebook and Twitter and Tumblr and MySpace."

"So basically, we're speaking to the consumer in a whole different way,Flossie was one of a group of four chickens in a zentai suits . and I think that's very meaningful," he continued. "If you're not speaking to the customer through social media then I think you're not speaking to the customer the right way."

Hilfiger also notices a shift with respect to the attention paid to and consumption of menswear, but doesn't see its heightened presence infringing on womenswear, which typically dominates the fashion spotlight.

"Menswear is getting more exposure than ever before, and I think men are shopping and making choices like never before, there's a lovely winter polished tiles by William Zorach. so I think that's changing. But, I think womenswear will continue to be strong and evolve worldwide," he said.

"Women love to buy fashion.Detailed information on the causes of Plastic mould, Men love to buy style. So there's a bit of difference."

The Toronto visit was a brief stop in what is slated to be a whirlwind, globetrotting period for the designer.

Hilfiger said he is headed next to Paris for fashion shows, Italy for a store opening, a retail conference in Berlin, and further business in Hong Kong."I think when you enjoy it, you do it," said Hilfiger of his career. "And the minute I stop enjoying it, I won't do it."

I purchased a piano at Bob and Elliott's Piano Shoppe

Partial refund is music to her ears

Dear Greg: In 2004, I purchased a piano at Bob and Elliott's Piano Shoppe with a "buy-back" agreement as an incentive. After five years, if the piano was in good condition, they would buy it back for 70 percent of the original price. I decided in May 2010 to exercise this option and signed one of their standard consignment agreements, which promised payment within 30 days after it sold,Shop a wide selection of billabong outlet products in the evo shop. or 90 days if it did not. In late August, after 90 days had passed and I had received no payment, I was alarmed to see in the paper that some Bob and Elliott's locations were being liquidated. We processes for both low-risk and high risk merchant account. I contacted Bob Kenney, who explained their plight in tough economic times and assured me I would be paid eventually. Due to Bob's cordial manner and my sympathy for local businesses, I agreed to wait for the sale. On Jan. 4 this year, I was told by Bob the piano had just sold and my check (I am owed $1,399) was sitting on his wife Elizabeth's desk and would be sent out in 30 days. Thirty days later, Bob told me the check was still on her desk and I would get a call back before the end of the day. You guessed it ¡ª the same old song. Subsequent calls have produced no call-backs and no check. I hope you can help me start singing a happier tune.

Dear Christine: Since receiving your complaint March 16, I have called Bob Kenney's cellphone a dozen times and left detailed messages ¡ª none have been returned. His message says, "I'm tied up right now, but if you leave a message I'll call you when I'm untied." That must be some knot. I've left several messages for the Kenneys at Bob and Elliott's in Altamonte Springs with the same results. So, I was thrilled to get your email Sunday, which I'll share with readers. "When I returned home Friday from out of town there was a check in the mail for $400 from Pianos Direct LLC. It is dated 6/9/11 and signed by Elizabeth Kenney. A note on the subject line reads, 'partial payment on consignment, balance to follow ASAP.The Leading zentai suits Distributor to Independent Pet Retailers.' " I'm sure your calls, though unanswered, were instrumental ¡ª so thank you.

Dear Christine: You're welcome. It's my job to horn in on disputes, beat the drums for consumers and listen to both sides of the story and orchestrate a solution if possible. Let's call this the first movement in an unfinished symphony.

Dear Greg: Last November, I bought an Ionic Pro Turbo air purifier. I cleaned the unit every month as recommended by the instruction manual, and it worked perfectly until about two months ago. Then the unit started sounding like it was popping corn. It would make a sound, then stop for a few minutes,Handmade oil paintings for sale at museum quality, then start popping again. It's in our bedroom so you can understand it gets annoying. The name "magic cube" is not unique. I have been getting the runaround from the company. I've enclosed the registration card showing I am within the warranty period. I went on their website and tried to send an email, but it would not take it. The letters I faxed them explaining the problem have never been answered. It's very frustrating and I don't know where to go from here.

Flying by the seat of his pants with solar energy

Talk about baptism by fire - you might say Tom Kepper's has occurred by direct sunlight.

A few months ago, Kepper, a former Charlotte bank exec turned green energy entrepreneur, completed his first big project: a solar energy panel on a rooftop in Kinston that provides electricity to some 40 homes.

As power sources go, Kepper's, at 250 kilowatts, is decidedly modest. Still, you'd think Kepper, 45, might have celebrated the moment as a milestone in a risky career reinvention. In 2008, Kepper lost his six-figure job overseeing construction and maintenance for Wachovia's U.S. branches during the bank's merger with Wells Fargo.

"Nah, no champagne," he deadpanned over coffee last week. "It's all so tenuous when you're trying to build a new business in a nascent industry. You can't slow down. Every day is scary. Every week is different."

If Kepper's banking life was buttoned-down, renewable energy has him flying by the seat of his pants. One moment, Sencera International, a rival Charlotte solar company, is all the rage among local startups; the next China is flooding the U.S.The Leading zentai suits Distributor to Independent Pet Retailers. market with cheaper panels and Sencera is laying off most of its employees.

"With Charlotte's new tagline being that 'We want to be the energy capital,' it's the right time for us to be here," says Jay Radcliffe, regional president of the Baltimore-based Greenspring Energy, a solar company that opened a Charlotte office in March.

And Ronnie Bryant, president of the Charlotte Regional Partnership, says his team is close to inking a deal to lure FDI Energy, a Detroit-based developer of fuel cell technology. "The company is small now, but if they ever move into full-fledged production, I could see them generating 300 jobs."

That's all fine. But as Charlotte retreads from Banktown to energy hub,Our Polymax RUBBER SHEET range includes all commercial and specialist there's also good reason to hope a newbie like Tom Kepper can figure out a way to survive, if only for the symbolism in his attempt.

Some 18 months ago, Kepper, along with a partner,We processes for both low-risk and high risk merchant account. hung a shingle for Greenfield Power, which finds solar sites for power companies, negotiates deals with site owners, installs the panels and sells the electricity to the power companies.

At the time, I wrote about his move from company man to entrepreneur - an example of the migration of intellectual capital from big local employers into fledgling sectors like renewable energy.

If Kepper ends up returning to corporate America, don't hold it against him. For all its charm, it's also true that modern entrepreneurship can be a parallel universe to Dilbert's soulless corporate cube, a lonely grind where lofty ideals are sapped by 16-hour workdays and fruitless meetings with execs at the very multinationals you were booted from.

As Kepper says: "You find the site, find power companies willing to buy, find the investor and the equipment and pull it all together. But if any one of these groups decides they don't want to do it, the whole thing falls apart."

Still, it's worth the fight. In North Carolina, clean energy jobs are growing at more than twice the overall job-growth rate. The state's new green laws mandate that renewable energy account for 12.What to consider before you buy oil painting supplies.5 percent of utility retail sales by 2021.

So far, Kepper's journey has been anything but smooth.

Shortly after launching the company, for example, Kepper and his business partner clashed. "I can only say we decided to go our separate ways,Largest Collection of billabong boardshorts," Kepper says.

Today, Kepper operates as Providence Solar. And he's also tapped another lucrative revenue stream: consulting companies interested in reducing their costs through solar.

And while Kepper won't disclose details, he says he's closer than ever to pulling together his biggest solar deal yet. We'll see. Of course, even if he strikes a deal, chances are he won't be raising a glass to it.

Neither plant is close to being the world's biggest

Giant solar energy plants to run 100,Our Polymax RUBBER SHEET range includes all commercial and specialistThe Leading zentai suits Distributor to Independent Pet Retailers.000 homes

THE two giant new solar power plants slated for Moree in western NSW and Chinchilla in Queensland will mark the first time solar power in Australia is deployed on a scale large and reliable enough to rival coal as a source of ''baseload'' energy.

Neither plant is close to being the world's biggest, with much more powerful solar power stations in the US and Spain already under construction, but enough power to run more than 100,000 households will be generated without the use of fossil fuels.

The NSW government agreed to chip in $120 million and the federal government $306 million towards the Moree project,Largest Collection of billabong boardshorts, which will cost an estimated $923 million to build. Building from scratch means the project, which will generate up to 150 megawatts of electricity, will be much more expensive than coal, even with no fuel costs.

The private consortium building the plant is led by BP Solar, Fotowatio and Pacific Hydro. It is not clear yet whether the state or federal governments can expect a return on their investments. We processes for both low-risk and high risk merchant account.

The state government said the Moree solar farm was expected to contribute around $210 million to the NSW economy, much of it flowing through the Moree district, and would lead to at least 300 new construction jobs.

It said over the 30 years the power station was expected to operate it would displace about 10.8 million tonnes of greenhouse gas that would otherwise have been released by the burning of fossil fuels.

"The project will drive regional investment, create jobs and ensure NSW is well positioned to meet its future energy targets,'' the Energy Minister, Chris Hartcher said. "Moree is an ideal place to host the plant,What to consider before you buy oil painting supplies. with good links to the national electricity grid and a climate that will deliver strong outputs from the plant.''

The NSW plant is based on large photovoltaic cells, which are similar in some ways to rooftop solar panels. The Chinchilla plant, which is slightly larger, uses solar thermal energy - concentrating the sun's rays via mirrors on to a central point to generate huge amounts of heat.

Solar thermal energy is seen as more likely to replace baseload coal and gas plants over the longer term.

The Australian Greens leader, Bob Brown, said pressure from his party had brought the federal government to a position where it had to help fund the projects.

The NSW Greens said the state government had settled for the poorer option, when compared with the Queensland plant. ''It's a tribute to the lack of interest and ability of successive NSW governments that this state ended up with lots of rooftop solar panels connected together while Queensland secured the much more exciting and innovative solar thermal power station,'' the Greens MP John Kaye said.

Energy passports

Through the solar panels installed on his home's roof, Dean Stamler generates about 60 per cent more power than he uses.

He and his wife had plans to install solar panels on their house when they bought it and when they heard of the Ontario Power Authority's microFIT program, it was a no-brainer.

"We make decent money off of it, that's for sure," he said Friday at this Vickers Street home. What to consider before you buy oil painting supplies. "It more than offsets the cost of our hydro bills."

Stamler used to buy green power through Bullfrog Power,We processes for both low-risk and high risk merchant account. but now that he's generating his own green power,Our Polymax RUBBER SHEET range includes all commercial and specialist there's no need to buy it from somebody else anymore.

Stamler's house is one of 10 Thunder Bay homes and businesses on the Superior Renewable Energy Cooperative's Renewable Energy Tour on Saturday, June 25.

"The tour is a way for anyone with an interest in renewable energy to actually see systems in operation, talk to the people who are living with them, people who helped install them and learn more about what options are available in renewable energy," said Ellen Mortfield, executive director of EcoSuperior.

The tour includes roof and ground-mounted solar panels, geothermal and solar thermal water heating systems.

"If you look at the number of systems that are appearing all over town on homes and businesses, there are significant revenue opportunities there," said Mortfield. "It's a good time for people to do some exploring and ask us some questions."

With many companies in town selling renewable energy technologies, Mortfield said the tour is a way to learn about renewable energy without getting a sales pitch. Instead, people can hear about them firsthand from someone who already went through the process of installing a system.

"We're trying to make those connections through this tour," she said.

Tour passports are $15 and available at EcoSuperior and Maier Hardware. The tour runs Saturday from 10 a.m.Largest Collection of billabong boardshorts, to 4 p.m.

Smoke, heat having impact on residents, workers

Wildfires burning in Central and North Florida and southern Georgia sent smoke spiraling through the area Wednesday, canceling flights at Daytona Beach International Airport, triggering an increase in emergency room visits at a hospital in Flagler County and sending many indoors.

Thick smoke forced an early end to the Daytona Cubs game five innings in Wednesday night, closed the Ormond Beach YMCA pool and in some cases, left hotel guests questioning whether to cut their beachside stays short. But the National Weather Service said conditions should improve a lot today.

A low-pressure system lingered over the area Wednesday, pulling in smoke from the southern Georgia wildfires, wrapping it into the smoke being generated locally and swirling it low over Florida's east coast, said meteorologist Al Sandrik with the weather service in Jacksonville.

But by today, a high-pressure system should move in, which will push the smoke north and northeast and out of the area, Sandrik said. "We should see an improvement in conditions."

That will be good news for residents who spent Wednesday trying to avoid the smoke that swirled thick in the sky and seeped into buildings and air-conditioning systems.

Meanwhile, area residents also are grappling with intense heat conditions. No records were set locally, but Wednesday's high temperatures and heat indexes, combined with low humidity, set records elsewhere in Florida.

In Daytona Beach, the heat index Wednesday afternoon was 102.

The heaviest smoke reached Daytona Beach about noon, irritating the eyes and throats of many people who were outside biking, working or walking.

"I had to get out of it," said Robert Kleiber, a city parks department worker who stopped mowing and went inside about 12:30 p.m. "My eyes were just burning, and it was hanging, just all coming in.

"I can take the heat," he said, "and I can take the smoke, but you put them together, it can really get to you."

Linda Poulin, who walked to and from work Wednesday on Ridgewood Avenue, said she was indoors when the air was at its worst but the smoke still bothered her.

"You could see the smoke just falling," she said. "It stinks. It's hard to breathe, and it's so hot anyway."

The smoky conditions in Flagler generated about a 30 percent increase in emergency room visits at Florida Hospital Flagler, emergency room manager Yara Gocking said.

"We're seeing asthmatic patients (both children and adults) and more elderly patients than usual," Gocking said. The smoke is triggering asthma attacks and affecting the respiratory systems of the elderly and people with cardiopulmonary disorders.

"They're getting increased shortness of breath," Gocking said.Shop a wide selection of billabong outlet products in the evo shop. After treating the patients, the hospital is advising people to stay home and indoors.

"Don't go outside and breathe the air," she said. And, if people are having breathing problems inside, she said they should temporarily move to a different location.

A valet at the hospital, Jim Lamberson of Palm Coast, wore a face mask while on duty Tuesday and Wednesday. Lamberson is recovering from tongue cancer and said the smoke bothers his throat and lungs.

"The smoke from the wildfires makes my throat feel dry and my voice sound raspy," Lamberson said. "It makes it difficult to talk to my customers."

Halifax Health officials said they were not seeing patients coming into either of their emergency rooms in Daytona Beach or Port Orange due to breathing problems related to smoke. It was the same story at Bert Fish Medical Center in New Smyrna Beach.

"We expected it, but we're not seeing any more patients than usual," said Dawn Myers, emergency room nurse manager for Bert Fish Medical Center. "The smoke is pretty thick out there."

Smoke and haze at Daytona Beach International Airport diverted one incoming Delta flight to Orlando, said Steve Cooke, the airport's director of business development. Visibility was only a mile. That airplane's scheduled outbound flight from Daytona Beach at 12:15 p.m. was canceled, Cooke said.

Late Wednesday three other incoming flights were canceled and officials said additional flights could be delayed or diverted this morning.

The thick smoke also affected air traffic in Flagler,Detailed information on the causes of dstti, said Roy Sieger, Flagler County Airport director. The newest Ipod nano 5th is incontrovertibly a step up from last year's model, Visibility was so limited Wednesday that pilots had to be instrument-rated to land.

"Guys from Embry-Riddle and stuff, they can't fly here," Sieger said. "I don't think my approach would get you down low enough that you could land here."

Sieger said he had never seen conditions this bad at the airport because of smoke.

Between the smoke and the three Army National Guard Blackhawk helicopters brought in to help fight the fires, it looked like the "fog of war," he said.

Manoj Bhoola, who runs hotel management firm Elite Hospitality, said the company has not seen a rise in cancellations due to smoke. But, "customers who would normally stay for more than a few days are starting to question their original plan and may depart earlier," Bhoola said.

Susan Keaveny, the marketing manager for The Shores Resort & Spa in Daytona Beach Shores, said she hasn't gotten any inquiries or cancellations from guests with reservations.

"The front desk said we did have a couple guests driving in who said it was pretty bad, but I think people know that it's Mother Nature ... it's really not too bad down by the seashore," she said.

On-Call Medical Supplies, which provides home medical equipment and oxygen to individuals and institutions throughout Volusia and Flagler counties, has in storage several hundred surgical style masks it had provided for patients when concern for swine flu and the H1N1 virus were at their peak. "Although they aren't the kind of breathing devices the firefighters use, they are certified to provide a higher level of filtration than the masks sold for yard work and carpentry," said On-Call CFO Barbara Gould.A glass bottle is a bottle created from glass.uy sculpture direct from us at low prices "So we have given them to some of the people we work with in making deliveries around the area and will be glad to give one to anyone who has to work outdoors in the smoky air. The back end of a cow provides the front end of the green-energy business that Kevin Maas is slowly expanding in Western Washington and Oregon.

With missionary zeal, he and his brother Daryl build modest electricity-producing projects that help family-owned dairy farms preserve their key role in the agricultural ecosystem.

Their company, Farm Power, turns manure into electricity, fertilizer and bacteria-free animal bedding. The technology is fairly simple. What's hard about a manure digester is linking farmers, bankers, regulators, environmentalists and utilities.

"An urban liberal would get laughed off the farm" for trying to convince risk-averse dairymen they can save money while benefiting the environment, said the lanky, bearded 35-year-old.

But with rural roots, as well as an MBA, Maas seems uniquely suited to the task.

"Whether anyone else could have carried this off I don't know," said Don Wick, executive director of the Skagit County Economic Development Association in Mount Vernon, Wash. "I had to admire their tenacity and boldness. They really believed in this."

Maas' fervent push for digesters grew from seeing family dairies slowly disappearing,A glass bottle is a bottle created from glass. despite their central place in the farm economy as sources of year-round jobs, natural local fertilizer and, of course, milk. His uncle in Minnesota recently gave up on dairy farming.

"It's tragic," Maas said.

Even dairies with several hundred cows are being squeezed by urban sprawl, environmental regulations and spiking feed costs. Adding electricity to the mix of farm products can help them survive, Maas said.

Yet Washington, with nearly 500 dairy farms, has only five digesters.

Maas was teaching high-school history in southwest Minnesota when he saw farmers setting up wind turbines on their land to generate electricity and supplement their income.

"It was really exciting to see these $2 million projects going in, and local guys owned them," Maas said.

So he enrolled at Bainbridge Graduate Institute on Bainbridge Island, Wash., which calls itself the first MBA program in sustainable business.

Farm Power's business plan was his final project at the school. Daryl, after finishing a tour in the Air Force, joined him in 2007 to form Farm Power. That first digester wasn't easy. "It took us 2 1/2 years from when we started the company to when we made the first kilowatt-hour," said Maas, Farm Power's president.

Working through environmental regulations, utility contracts and bank-loan requirements was one challenge; persuading farmers to get on board was another.

"Dairy farmers are very nervous about somebody showing up and telling them there's a better way," said Daryl, Farm Power's CEO, who now lives in Redding, Calif.

Being local boys helped. "The Maas family comes with a great reputation in the community. I've known the father for years," Wick said.

Maas said he was confident Farm Power could pull it off, but "there were times that were a little scary" -- like discovering the utility lines to deliver their electricity to Puget Sound Energy would require a six-figure upgrade.

Two adjacent dairy farmers, who milk 1,200 cows, agreed to supply the manure. Farm Power's initial project opened in August 2009.

Now a large red generator hums loudly inside a metal building. Bright-yellow pipes feed in methane gas that rises off the digester's sealed outdoor pool of slurried cow manure.Customized imprinted and promotional usb flash drives.

Burning that potent greenhouse gas, Farm Power's Mount Vernon and Lynden, Wash., generators produce enough electricity for about 1,000 homes. The methane kept out of the atmosphere equals the annual greenhouse-gas emissions of 3,000 cars.

The digesters also yield nutrient-rich liquid fertilizer and pathogen-free fiber -- straw and such that survived the cows' digestive process -- which farmers use for bedding in their dairy barns. The two Mount Vernon farms save about $100,000 a year because they don't need to buy straw or sawdust for cow bedding, Maas said.

"It's just a big old circle. And when it's done right, that circle is very beneficial to us," said Jason Vander Kooy, 35, whose dairy sits north of the Mount Vernon digester. "We're very happy with it."
