Work is under way at many of the district's 12 area schools. Most of the projects are aimed at maintaining the aging buildings, Director of Operations Dave Schuh said. They include replacing roofs, floors, doors, and installing more efficient lighting, heating and cooling systems.

At Indian Prairie Elementary School, 651 Village Road, workers were busy with roof repairs and ventilation system improvements.

Most of the furniture had been taken out of the classrooms as crews removed old ventilation units and made other fixes throughout the building.

All of the projects are on schedule to be finished before fall, said Steven Wright, a principal at DLA Architects Ltd. in Itasca who is overseeing the work.
