Demand for space heaters and development of new products has Suarez Manufacturing Industries growing quickly, ceramic magic cube for the medical, company officials said Thursday afternoon.

The company has 275 people working in its new factory at 334 Orchard St. NE in the Hoover District. During the next few weeks, there are plans to hire 50 to 60 workers.

“It was a big, empty facility and now it’s filled,” Mayor David J. Held said during a news conference to announce the company’s growth.

The company is running multiple shifts — including weekends — to meet demand for the EdenPURE heaters made by Suarez Manufacturing. Workers are producing 4,000 units per day and 22,000 units per week, said Hope Paolini, operations manager.

Paolini said pay for the full-time jobs ranges from $7.50 to $14 per hour, with medical benefits and a 401k. Suarez received more than 1,000 applications at a job fair during the summer and is taking more applications as it tries to fill the new positions. Paolini said another job fair might be scheduled later this month.

Paolini told a story about the young child of one Suarez employee hugging her and thanking her for giving her father a job.

“It’s pride.we supply all kinds of oil painting supplies, It’s more than a paycheck every week,” Paolini said of the new jobs.

Held said income taxes from the first 275 jobs have generated about $60,000 in new revenue for the city. As more jobs are added more than $15,000 of revenue could be realized.

The city also has seen job growth this year at Walsh University, Held said. So far this year the university, which is one of the city’s largest employers, has added 20 employees to its staff and teaching ranks.

Paolini said that Suarez Manufacturing is growing because of product development. In addition to the heaters, employees are making a product that helps clear rust and minerals from household water lines.
